KECAK DANCE IN BATU BULAN
The Kecak Dance in Batubulan Bali is one of the most popular traditional Balinese cultural performances for visitors who want to experience Balinese dance, music, storytelling, and mythology in one show.
Kecak is a Balinese dance-drama based on the Ramayana epic. Unlike many Balinese dances, the performance traditionally does not use a gamelan orchestra. The men sit in concentric circles, moving their hands and bodies rhythmically while the main dancers act out the story.
Indonesia's official tourism information describes the performance as a dramatic combination of dance and musical theatre.
What makes Batubulan Kecak special?
Batubulan is well known as an arts and cultural village in Gianyar, particularly for traditional performances, stone carving, sculpture and other Balinese arts. Kecak is among the performances associated with the village.
The performers create a circle around a fire while Hanuman moves through the scene. The combination of chanting, movement, costumes and fire creates a highly theatrical atmosphere.
This is one reason Kecak is often marketed internationally as the "Kecak Fire Dance."
