BARONG TRADITIONAL DANCE PERFORMANCE
The Barong and Keris dance is a traditional Balinese performance depicting the eternal battle between good (Barong) and evil (Rangda). Barong, a lion-like creature, symbolizes protection and virtue, while Rangda, a demon queen, represents chaos.
Dancers in elaborate costumes and masks bring the myth to life, accompanied by the rhythmic gamelan orchestra. The Keris (dagger) dance involves trance-like warriors attempting to stab themselves, protected by Barong’s magic. This dramatic, spiritual performance reflects Balinese Hinduism’s themes of balance and harmony, captivating audiences with its vibrant visuals, intricate movements, and deep cultural significance.
